Preferred builder announced for $450m Princes Highway Berry to Bomaderry upgrade NSW

The joint venture between Downer and Seymour Whyte has been awarded the contract to build the $450 million Princes Highway Upgrade from Berry to Bomaderry, which will deliver four lanes of new divided road.

“This is the first time that both companies have worked in joint venture together, and we look forward to working as one team to deliver this vital piece of regional infrastructure,” Seymour Whyte Regional Manager - Southern Steve Lambert said.

The Downer-Seymour Whyte joint venture’s scope of works will comprise of all major civil road works including underpasses, overpass bridges, u-turn facilities, intersections, interchanges and utility relocations. The upgrade is going to be carried out from Mullers Lane at Berry to Cambewarra Road at Bomaderry.

Once the upgrade is completed, motorists will be able to experience better and more reliable travels along the Princes Highway.

“Downer is very pleased to deliver this important highway upgrade with our partners Seymour Whyte. It will improve road safety and traffic efficiency, reduce delays and increase road capacity to deliver better and more reliable journeys for the local community and visiting motorists.
“More importantly, the berry to Bomaderry Princes Highway upgrade project will allow for future growth in a developing region,” Downer infrastructure Projects General Manager NSW Karl McCarthy said.

Utility relocation is already underway, with major construction activities to commence by mid-2018. This section of the Princes Highway Upgrade - between Berry and Bomaderry - is projected to be completed by late 2022, weather permitting.

“The Princes Highway is a key South Coast route and it’s amazing to think once this project between Berry and Bomaderry is completed, more than 30 kilometres of road will have been upgraded since 2012,” Kiama MP Gareth Ward said.
