A new major milestone has been reached on the $852 million Bunbury Outer Ring Road in Western Australia with the announcement of the Southwest Connex Alliance as the preferred proponent to build the project.
The Southwest Connex Alliance is composed of Acciona, NRW Contracting, MACA Civil, AECOM and Aurecon.
“MACA is delighted to be a participant in the Southwest Connex Alliance. We look forward to working with our Alliance Partners to deliver a quality infrastructure project for Western Australia,” MACA CEO and Managing Director Mike Sutton said.
With this announcement, the alliance will now undergo a negotiation period for the Project Alliance Agreement. The contract is anticipated to be formally awarded in September 2020.
“I am delighted that the Southwest Connex Alliance has been named as the Preferred Proponent of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project.
“We look forward to working closely with our Alliance partners and Main Roads through the Preferred Proponent stage,” NRW CEO and Managing Director Jules Pemberton said.
The alliance’s scope of works will include investigation, design and construction of a 27-kilometre four-lane dual carriageway rural highway that will connect Forrest Highway at Australind to Bussell Highway at Gelorup.
Works will also include delivery of grade separated interchanges, rail and river crossings as well as a 20-kilometre stretch of new and upgraded local government roads.
Once completed, the Bunbury Outer Ring Road will be able to provide motorists with a safer and more efficient road network in Western Australia’s South-West regions.
The Bunbury Outer Ring Road is anticipated to have a construction period of about three and a half years, which will generate more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs across local communities and the State.
Major construction on this multi-million-dollar project is expected to begin in early 2021.
The Bunbury Outer Ring Road is jointly and fully funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments, each contributing $681.6 million and $170.4 million respectively.
