Probuild has been chosen as the preferred builder to deliver Melbourne’s $490 million The Glen shopping centre redevelopment.

The redevelopment will include expanding approximately 78,000-sqm of gross lettable space which will be home to a fresh food market hall, two dining precincts, a Town Square as well as the latest format David Jones, new mini major and international brands.

According to Probuild Victorian Managing Director Luke Stambolis, this project is a particularly challenging redevelopment due to working within a live environment.

“Continued community access to existing shops, parking and services is critical to the success of this redevelopment. Probuild’s expert teams are well-equipped to minimise disruption and will ensure The Glen continues to be a convenient place to shop, dine and visit throughout the redevelopment,” Mr Stambolis said.

Probuild will continue to work closely with Vicinity Centres – co-owners of The Glen – throughout the redevelopment in order to refine and optimise their vision for the shopping centre.

“The Glen stands to be an exemplar collaboration between developer, co-owners and builder. Probuild is privileged to deliver what will be a new benchmark in major retail development,” said Probuild Group Managing Director Simon Gray.

Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan said that the project is expected to create up to 2,350 jobs – including 1,150 construction jobs as well as 1,200 ongoing hospitality and retail jobs.

Construction is set to commence soon and will be completed in early 2020.
