Probuild has recently been awarded the design and construct contract to build a four-star, 120-room hotel at Eastland Shopping Centre in Melbourne's outer east.

Five levels will be built on top of the Eastland Stage 5 retail component, joining other significant projects including the $665 million dollar redevelopment of the Eastland shopping centre, the new Town Square and Realm, and the $66 million Ringwood station and bus interchange upgrade.

Maroondah Council’s planning director Phil Turner said the area was a hotspot for development, with several high-rise apartment complexes also underway behind Costco and on Maroondah Highway near Ringwood train station.

The hotel project follows on from Probuild's involvement in the Eastland Shopping centre expansion, and construction is expected to commence in late July.

In a company statement, Probuild Group Managing Director, Simon Gray said “We collaborated closely with QIC [Eastland owner] to deliver the expansion to Eastland, bringing our extensive national experience in the design and development of retail centres to maximise our client's return and enhance the customer experience."

“The transformation of Eastland was delivered in a live operating environment. It involved the development of bespoke approaches including a secondary lattice façade and special honeycomb aluminium fins to create a lightweight but heavy-duty façade to meet the design intent of the architectural concepts. We will be incorporating similar innovative design details within the hotel construction,” said Mr Gray.
