Western Australia-based Infinite Green Energy (IGE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Samsung C&T, partnering up for the development and construction of the Arrowsmith Hydrogen Plant.

The approximately $5 billion project located 30 kilometres south of Dongara will include a wond and solar-powered plant that is estimated to produce around 300 tonnes of green hydrogen a day or 100,000 tonnes annually for both domestic and export markets.

“The McGowan Government welcomes this exciting development which sees WA progress a significant producer, exporter and user of this emerging renewable energy source.

“Partnerships like these are vital to the delivery of the 2030 vision under the Western Australian Renewable Hydrogen Strategy and future opportunities that come with it.

“With the crucial need to diversity and decarbonise here and around the world, the McGowan Government is committed to the renewable hydrogen sector to help reduce emissions to achieve net zero greenhouse emissions,” Hydrogen Industry Minister Roger Cook said.

The Arrowsmith Hydrogen Plant is going to be built on a 1,929 hectare site that was previously used for grazing. The facility will include 700MW of electrolysers, 750MW of solar PV as well as 1,550MW of wind capacity and 240MW of battery storage.

Green hydrogen production at the Arrowsmith facility is anticipated to commence in 2028.
