Agripower Australia Limited’s $663 million Fertiliser processing plant expansion project near Townsville, Queensland has been given the prescribed project status and this development is expected to create 490 jobs during construction as well as 470 once it is operational.
“Agripower’s amorphous silica is sourced from what is believed to be the world’s largest deposit of the mineral near Greenvale.
“Agripower believes that a two billion tonne deposit could create a mine life of 200 years,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
The company has just completed the construction of a 240,000-tonne-a-year processing facility near Charters Towers, which is anticipated to begin operations by next month.
“The completion of the processing facility is good news for Charters Towers and North Queensland.
“But I am pleased to see Agripower planning for the future demand for this Queensland resource by looking to develop a $663 million processing facility near Yabulu,” the Premier added.
With the new processing facility, Agripower is set to produce up to 1 million tonnes of fertiliser for export.
With the project granted the prescribed project status, the Queensland independent Coordinator-General will be able to assist in progressing the project efficiently by ensuring that it has timely approvals from all agencies.
