The Queensland Government has called for tenders for the $34.2 million Bill Fulton Bridge duplication project, fixing an important thoroughfare on one of Cairns' most used roads. More than 30,000 motorists use the Cairns Western Arterial Road every day, with Redlynch's infamous Bill Fulton Bridge named the number one issue raised by constituents in the Barron River area.
The duplication project will be one of the first to be delivered the State Government’s $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program (SRIPP), part of the $2 billion State Infrastructure Fund.
“This project which is creating 97 jobs locally is a high priority for the Palaszczuk Government,” Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said.
“Works are expected to include 120 metres of new bridging, 700m of duplication between Brinsmead and Redlynch roads and signalisation of the Brinsmead Road intersection.”
Mr Crawford said construction was on track to start in late 2016 (weather permitting).
“The tender is expected to be awarded in October and construction well underway before the next wet season,” he said.
You can access the tender for construction of Bill Fulton Bridge Duplication and Approach Works here, with the invitation to offer closing on Friday 9 September.
