Approximately $13 million worth of critical infrastructure projects as well as 40 jobs will start flowing in Bundaberg and North Burnett regions later this year thanks to the Queensland Government’s latest infrastructure funding grants through the Building our Regions program.
According to State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham, the State Government is providing $6.6 million for three important local projects, which will be delivered in partnership with Bundaberg and North Burnett councils.
“Infrastructure projects spark jobs growth and flow-on business opportunities, keeping regional Queensland’s local economies ticking over.
“The Palazsczuk Government has identified aerospace as one of our Advance Queensland priority sectors that offer thousands of jobs and business opportunities if we can build on its existing status as an Asia-Pacific aviation centre of excellence,” Dr Lynham said.
Member for Bundaberg Leanne Donaldson said that aerospace offers great opportunities for businesses who have not considered dealing with the industry.
“Engineering companies, for instance, who have always supplied the agricultural industry could diversify into aerospace.
“This offers potential for high skill, highly-paid jobs, as we as business opportunities for local companies,” Ms Donaldson said.
In addition to aerospace, Dr Lynham also announced $5.3 million – which will be added to the council’s $5.3 million fund – to transform the Burnett Heads town centre.
“Zunker Street will have a redesigned streetscape including wider footpaths, landscaping, on-street car parking, public art, disabled parking spaces and smart technology elements.
“Reinvesting royalties in the latest round of our $375 million Building our Regions program will generate almost 440 jobs across 65 projects from Eromanga to Horn Island,” Dr Lynham said.
The State Government and North Burnett Regional Council will be investing $1.27 million each to boost facilities at the Mingo Crossing caravan and camp site which will create new powered and ‘glamping’ sites as well as amenities block and camp kitchen.
The Building our Regions program has already allocated about $156.7 million to 109 critical infrastructure projects State-wide which has generated over 1,300 jobs as well as attracted more than $277 million in investments from councils and organisations.
