The Queensland Government has granted Resolute Mining Ltd nine new mining leases which is vital to the $150 million project that will extend the life of the Ravenswood gold mine that’s located approximately 150 kilometres south west of Townsville.

The new mining leases will also help secure up to 380 jobs for North Queensland and add another 14 years to Ravenswood’s mine life.

“For Resolute, it means they can continue operations smoothly as one mine reaches the end of its lifecycle and another begins.

“For the 280 strong workforce, it means another 13 years of employment, as well as an additional 100 construction jobs for the new mine,” Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said.

The Ravenswood Expansion Project (REP) will comprise of the proposed Buck Reef West open pit mine and associated infrastructure, including roads, water management facility and noise bunding. The land required for this project has been covered by the new mining leases.

“These new mining leases support our plans to expand production from our Ravenswood mine and continue a strong partnership with the government and local workforce and community that commenced in 2004,” Resolute Mining Managing Director and CEO John Welborn said.

Resolute Mining’s operations at the Mount Wright Underground Mine is set to conclude soon and open pit mining will proceed at the Sarsfield and proposed Buck Reef West deposits.

The Buck Reef West mine is anticipated to begin production by July and will ramp up to full capacity by 2024. The company will utilise its existing processing plant and equipment to fast track production at the mine.
