Pre-qualified contractors are now being invited to register their interest in getting involved in the delivery of the Great Western Highway Upgrade – Cox River Road project in New South Wales.

The Registration of Interest (ROI) invitation extends to pre-qualified contractors under the National Prequalification Scheme at Category R3 for roadworks, Category B3 for bridgeworks and Financial Level F100.

ROIs will be open for submissions until 1st June 2022 and shortlisted bidders will be invited to tender by July the same year.

The Great Western Highway Upgrade – Cox River Road project will include:

  • 2.4 kilometres of median separated dual carriageways on a new alignment of the Great Western Highway
  • A grade separated interchange at Cox River Road, supplemented by new sections of connecting roadway to create a local service road network
  • Realignment of the existing highway in the vicinity of Browns Gap Road to create a new local service road
  • Upgrades to intersections at Browns Gap Road and Banners Lane
  • Tie-ins to the existing Great Western Highway at the eastern and western ends of the new alignment
  • New shared path for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Ancillary works such as driveways, footpaths, kerb and gutters, retaining walls, slope treatment, drainage works, water quality basins and landscape

A two-phase procurement process is going to be undertaken to select the successful tenderer for this project.

This project is part of the broader $4.5 billion Great Western Highway Program – Katoomba to Lithgow that will help improve the connection between Central West New South Wales and Sydney as well as reduce congestion, improve freight productivity and resilience, and deliver a more reliable and safer route for the thousands of motorists travelling in, around and through the Blue Mountains.
