CIMIC Group member Sedgman has been awarded a contract by Century Mining Limited - a subsidiary of New Century Resources - to deliver a number of mining services at the Century zinc operation in Queensland.

The company’s five-year contract - valued at approximately $110 million - is for maintenance and operations services for the Lawn Hill processing plant, concentrate pipeline and Karumba Port facility at the mine.

Sedgman has been a vital part of the Century Mine’s restart project, with up to 100 of its workforce undertaking the refurbishment and commissioning works for the mine’s processing plant and port. The company commenced engineering, procurement and construction activities on the project as well as provided services for operational readiness requirements.

The company has also provided the restart feasibility study for the mine, concentrate pipeline and Karumba Port facility back in 2017.

“We have developed a strong working relationship with New Century Resources at the Century Mine, firstly through a feasibility study and then on refurbishment and reconfiguration of the plant and infrastructure. I’m pleased that we are building on our early involvement, showcasing our full project cycle delivery capability, by adding operation and maintenance services to our works at the site,” Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said.

Early works at the Century Mine - located 250 kilometres north west of Mount Isa - commenced in December of last year and the project is on track to begin restart production by the third quarter of 2018.
