Two shortlisted builders have been announced to deliver the iconic Swan River pedestrian and cyclist crossing in Western Australia, taking the project a step closer to construction.

The contract is expected to be awarded by late 2021 and construction to begin by mid-2022.
“The Morrison Government is delighted to be providing Perth with a significant tourist attraction that will also offer local communities safer access to their city via the southern Swan River foreshore.
“Supporting local infrastructure projects is vital to our COVID-19 response, and the economic measures put in place to support local and Aboriginal businesses will help secure employment of workers who were displaced during this pandemic,” Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher MP said.
Development work is currently underway to inform the design for the builder. The works include early engagement with key stakeholders such as Aboriginal representatives, recreational and commercial river users as well as local businesses and key local government agencies.
The new Swan River Causeway Bridge is going to be six metres wide, featuring dedicated pedestrian and cyclist lanes that will provide safer access for the thousands of pedestrians and cyclists using the existing bridge each day.
Detailed site assessments will soon commence and local will be seeing some activity on the Swan River and the surrounding land – including the use of a barge in the project area for several months.
Once completed, the new bridge will connect Victoria Park foreshore with Heirisson Island and Perth CBD.
The Swan River Causeway Bridge is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments through the Perth City Deal, each contributing $25 million.
“This project forms part of the WA Recovery Plan and Perth City Deal, which will support local jobs, stimulate the economy and encourage more people into the Perth CBD.
“I can't wait to see this iconic new structure across the Swan River take shape,” WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti MLA said.
