Motorists in Melbourne’s northern and south eastern suburbs are one step closer to experiencing safer and less congested travels along arterial roads, with the announcement of three shortlisted builders to deliver the Victorian Government’s $2.2 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade.

The three shortlisted builders asked to submit tenders are Access Arterial, Connecting Melbourne and Netflow. The winning tenderer will be delivering upgrades to 14 arterial roads across Melbourne’s outer north and south east as part of the $2.2 billion northern and south eastern package of the Suburban Roads Upgrade.

Arterial roads to be upgraded in Melbourne’s outer north will include:

  • Bridge Inn Road in Doreen between  Plenty Road and Yan Yean Road
  • Sections along Craigieburn Road in Craigieburn

Other works in in the north will include upgrading intersections along Fitzsimons Lane in Templestowe and Eltham as well as installation of traffic lights at Leane Drive in Eltham.

Meanwhile, Melbourne’s south eastern arterial roads to be upgraded will include:

The South Eastern Roads Upgrade will also include replacing roundabouts with traffic lights along Thompson Road - at Dandenong-Frankston Road in Cranbourne and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road in Carrum Downs.

Other upgrades on the south east include road safety and surface improvement works along Golf Links and Grant Roads as well as roundabout upgrades at Golf Links, Grant, Warrandyte and Baxter-Tooradin Roads in Langwarrin South.

“We’re getting on with delivering key upgrades to roads across Melbourne’s outer suburbs - with construction already underway in Melbourne’s west and, now, three consortia bidding to get on with the two remaining packages in Melbourne’s south east and north.

“Drivers will be the big winners as we push on with delivering these key projects - and get on with delivering billions of dollars of road upgrades across Melbourne,” Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said.

The Suburban Roads Upgrade is a $4 billion package of works that will upgrade 22 arterial roads across Melbourne’s outer west, south east and northern suburbs.

The delivery of this multi-billion dollar project is going to be overseen by the Major Roads Projects Authority.
