SIMPEC – a subsidiary of WestStar Industrial Limited – has been awarded a $145 million contract to build a Wet Processing Plant at the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project in Western Australia.
The Iron Bridge Magnetite Project is a joint venture between Fortescue Metals Group’s (FMG) subsidiary FMG Magnetite Pty Ltd and Formosa Steel IB Pty Ltd.
“This is an important milestone achievement for SIMPEC in the delivery of our Company’s mission to deliver major projects in the industry. The award of the Wet Plant Project represents our largest contract win to date with a first-tier client.

The new contract award will get SIMPEC to deliver works that will support the development of a new mine and associated infrastructure. For this project, SIMPEC will provide vertical construction services and the company is estimating to have a workforce of about 500 personnel.
Scope of works will include major module installation, tank installation, major mechanical installation, large bore piping as well as supply and installation of electrical and instrumentation works.
The Wet Processing Plant is a major component of the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project and it is anticipated to help produce up to 22 wet million tonnes per annum (WMtpa) of high-grade magnetite concentrate product.

SIMPEC will commence works immediately, with project completion expected by mid-2022.
The approximately $3.5 billion Iron Bridge Magnetite Project is located 145 kilometres south of Port Hedland in the Pilbara region. This mining operation is comprised of two world-class ore bodies, namely North Star and Glacier Valley Magnetite.
