Six major train stations at Brisbane’s southside will receive accessibility upgrades that coincides with the multi-billion dollar Cross River Rail project that will deliver a 10.2 kilometre rail from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills.
The works are part of a $57 million investment that will boost the existing $300 million already allotted by the Queensland Government for the station accessibility upgrade program. Stations to be upgraded under this new investment include the Fairfield, Yeronga, Yeerongpilly, Moorooka, Rocklea and Salisbury stations.
“Cross River Rail already includes plans to build an additional platform at these southside stations, so it makes sense that we also invest in accessibility upgrades to the existing station platforms at the same time, so they can be delivered by the Cross River Rail contractor.
“The station upgrades are designed to minimise network disruption with new platforms also to be prefabricated off-site,” Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

These vital works will help improve accessibility to the stations for all commuters, including those with disabilities, parents with prams as well as commuters with luggages.
“We are committed to ensuring our public transport system delivers for all Queenslanders.
“Cross River Rail’s southside improvement plans will unlock extra rail capacity and deliver the essential infrastructure that can support high frequency services on the transport network,” Mr Bailey said.
The upgrades will also raise the station platforms on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines which will utilise the Cross River Rail’s twin underground tunnels.
Member for Toohey Peter Russo said: “An extra third platform will also be added to each of the six stations to boost capacity and convenience for passengers.”
The plans for the six southside station upgrades are going to be assessed by the independent Coordinator-General, and feedback for the plans can be submitted through the independent Coordinator-General’s website until 5th June 2019.
