Construction on Stage 2 of the Echuca to Moama Bridge project is now underway, following the completion of Stage 1 of the project which delivered upgrades to Murray Valley Highway and Warren Street roundabout.

Scope of works covered by Stage 2 of the project will include upgrading and widening Warren Street; and the construction of four new flood relief bridges, dedicated residential service roads as well as turning lanes at intersections and a roundabout that will connect to the new Murray River crossing.

This $26.35 million project will also deliver new service roads and extended turning lanes into Homan Street and the Echuca cemetery, giving locals safer and easier access to properties.

“With a new Murray River crossing on the way, the upgrade of Warren Street has been carefully planned to ensure it will provide a safe and reliable main link to the new bridge,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael McCormack said.

According to Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan, the upgrades will also be improving access and safety for locals passing through the route, with new service roads, extended turning lanes and pedestrian and cycling paths.

“Upgrading Warren Street will better connect the Murray Valley Highway to Echuca and the new river crossing - making it easier for Victorians to do business and get around safely,” Mr Donnellan said.

New South Wales Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said that this upgrade project will provide the region with wider economic and travel benefits.

“Building this new Murray River crossing will improve journey times between these twin cities, boost the cross-border economy and provide 400 direct and more than 1,000 indirect jobs,” Minister Pavey added.

In July of this year, Winslow Constructors was awarded the contract to deliver Stage 2 of the Echuca to Moama Bridge project.

Construction on the second stage is expected to be completed in late 2019.

The $280 million Echuca to Moama Bridge project is being delivered by Major Road Projects Authority - VicRoads’ major projects division - and the project is going to be built in four stages:

  • Murray Valley Highway to Warren Street roundabout
  • Warren Street upgrades
  • New road bridge over the Campaspe and Murray Rivers
  • Upgrades to the Cobb Highway, Meninya Street and Perricoota Road intersections

The entire Echuca to Moama Bridge project is jointly funded by the Australian, Victorian and New South Wales Governments.
