Stage 3 of the $740 million St George Hospital Redevelopment in New South Wales is set to begin major construction in the coming weeks.
BESIX Watpac has been awarded the contract to undertake works on the third stage of the redevelopment project after a competitive tender process.
“This is a very exciting day for the St George community, with construction about to begin on the $411 million Integrated Ambulatory Care Precinct, the third stage of this significant redevelopment.
“The new Ambulatory Care Building will be a one-stop-shop for community and out-of-hospital services, bringing together a range of new, enhanced and existing health services into the one location, right next to the St George Hospital campus,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.
The $411 million investment on Stage 3 brings the total State Government commitment to $740 million. Previous commitments include the $277 million Acute Services Building, new $43.7 million emergency department, and $11.5 million birth suite and theatre refurbishment.

The project will also deliver a new public forecourt and green spaces in addition to the new Ambulatory Care Building to provide a welcoming environment that will support patients’ well-being.
“The new facility will meet the health needs of the St George and Sutherland community now and into the future by providing more accessible care for patients, ultimately improving health outcomes.
“The redevelopment will also provide additional inpatient beds, including a specialty Aged Care Unit and a new Acute Brain Injury Unit,” Member for Oatley Mark Coure said.
This stage of the hospital redevelopment complements previous projects such as the Emergency Department, eight-level Acute Services Building and upgraded Birthing Suite and Operating Theatre.
The St George Hospital redevelopment secured a funding boost of $26 million – included in the $411 million cost for Stage 3 – through the 2022-23 State Budget, which will deliver additional on-site car parking to improve access to the hospital.
The St George Hospital redevelopment project is being delivered as part of the State Government’s record $11.9 billion investment in health infrastructure over four years to 2025-26.
