Sterling and Wilson to build 500MW of solar plants in Australia

Monica Gameng   |   November 7, 2017

India-based Engineering, Procurement and Construction company Sterling and Wilson recently revealed plans to develop approximately 500MW of new PV solar plants in Australia over the next three years.

“Australia is witnessing a solar boom, as the country has had a phenomenal year with respect to large-scale solar projects.

“The solar industry has also seen a sharp decline in costs, and is seen as a pivotal force to help the country achieve its renewable energy targets by 2020,” Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy CEO Bikesh Ogra said.

The planned projects are expected to require a $600 million investment for construction. As part of the company’s expansion into Australia, Sterling and Wilson expects to employ up to 750 people to build the solar plants.

The company also recently opened up an office in Brisbane to accompany its expansion in the country.

“We are definitely excited to be a part of this transformational journey and aid in realising its [Australia’s] potential to transition to a future of sustainable and renewable energy.

“As a truly global solar engineering procurement construction (EPC) company with experience across geographies, we not only want to bring our best practices to the industry, but also learn alongside our peers to attain our target of 500MW installations,” Mr Ogra said.
