The $121.5 million Spoilbank Marina project is on track to transforming Port Hedland’s waterfront into a vibrant and attractive destination for locals and visitors with the tender for bulk earthworks now out to market.
Businesses that are interested to apply for the tender can visit the Tenders WA website. Registered tenderers will also receive notifications regarding other packages of work for the project when they are released.
The winning tenderer will be undertake the excavation of the marine basin, selected breakwaters and revetments for this stage of the project.
“The release of this tender is a major step in the McGowan Government’s delivery of this long-awaited project for the Port Hedland community.
“Not only will the marina alleviate demand on existing boat launching facilities in Port Hedland, it will create a transformative waterfront development in the Pilbara for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan said.
In June of this year, the Western Australian Government launched the Pilbara business register through the Pilbara Development Commission. This allows local businesses to register their interest for this significant project. You can read more about this initiative here.
To date, there have been a total of 98 businesses that have expresses their interest – including 87 that are based in the Pilbara.
“This is another important milestone for the Spoilbank Marina project.
“It is fantastic to see more than 80 businesses with a Pilbara presence express their interest in working on the project – this will help to ensure local business has the best possible chance at securing work from the project,” Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel said.
The delivery of Spoilbank Marina will be led by Pilbara Ports Authority who will work closely with its project partners that include the Department of Transport, DevelopmentWA, Pilbara Development Commission and the Town of Port Hedland.

Works on this multi-million-dollar project is anticipated to commence in January 2021.
Spoilbank Marina is expected to have a two-year construction period which will create more than 200 jobs.
“The Spoilbank Marina is a great opportunity for local businesses to secure work on this government project, which will see more than 200 jobs created during construction and helping to support the State recovery from the economic impacts of COVID-19,” Minister MacTiernan said.
“I look forward to earthworks getting underway in January,” added Mr Michel.
