Tenders have been called for the design and construction of the $55 million Gawler East Link Road project in South Australia. The project is expected to create up to 110 jobs during construction and major works are set to begin in early 2018.

“This $55 million project will not only help to reduce the congestion and delays in the Gawler town centre, it will provide a critical link to growth areas of the district while creating more than 110 jobs during construction,” Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said.

The project includes the design and construction of a 5.5 kilometre road which will connect Main North Road with residential developments in the town’s eastern part. This project will also include new traffic signals as well as an upgrade of the Main North Road intersection with Potts and Para roads, an upgrade to Potts Road, and the construction of a bridge over the South Para River.

Once completed, Gawler East Link Road will serve new residential developments that are underway in Gawler East, Gawler South and Evanston Park. The road will also provide existing Gawler East residents an alternate route to access Main North Road.

“The flow-on effects are expected to be even greater. Building this road will help to spur investment in the residential developments in Gawler and that will lead to more construction jobs for locals,” Mr Mullighan said.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in 2019.
