Tenders to deliver the next stage of the Great Eastern Drive Tourism Support package in Tasmania have been released to market.
The latest tenders are part of the Triabunna package of works that include widening and realignment of a 1.3-kilometre section of the Tasman Highway north of Triabunna.
Tenders are available at the Tasmanian Government Tenders website. Interested proponents are encouraged to review the documentation and submit a formal response.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026. Once this project is completed, it will help further improve safety for the State’s popular tourism route as well as complement the program’s other ongoing upgrades.
“With the next stage of the Great Eastern Drive Tourism Support package underway, the Australian Government, in partnership with the Tasmanian Government, is delivering on our commitment to build regional infrastructure that supports jobs, tourism and safer roads.
“Once completed, these upgrades will improve safe access for visitors exploring Tasmania’s east coast and provide more efficient travel for local communities,” Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said.
The Australian Government is contributing $100 million towards three packages of works on the Tasman Highway near Aspley, Triabunna and Lisdillon while the Tasmanian Government is investing $25 million.
Early this year, work commenced on the Apsley package and is due to be completed in mid-2026. This package will deliver improvements to the Tasman Highway between Bicheno and Coles Bay Road, including the east coast’s first Hobart-bound overtaking lane.
Meanwhile, planning will continue for the Lisdillon package. This is proposed to include upgrading a further 13-kilometre section of the Tasman Highway between Pontypool and Rocky Hills north of Little Swanport.
“Tasmania’s east coast is home to some of our state’s most breathtaking attractions and the Tasman Highway is the scenic gateway that connects us all to the region known as the Great Eastern Drive between Orford and St Helens.
“Through the Triabunna works package we are improving safety and traffic flow for everyone travelling the east coast including locals, freight operators and the growing number of visitors to our state.
“We’ve made significant progress since the program started, prioritising projects that enhance safety and strengthen tourism along Tasmania’s iconic east coast,” TAS Infrastructure Minister Kerry Vincent said.
“The Albanese Government is delivering for Lyons, with this substantial roads package just the latest example.
“This investment is about more than asphalt and lanes – it’s about safer journeys, a stronger tourism sector and connecting Tasmanians across our beautiful east coast,” Federal Member for Lyons Rebecca White said.
