Expressions of Interest have now been opened for submission for two major work packages for the $352 million Rookwood Weir project which will boost water security in Central Queensland.

The first work package - which was released earlier this month - will include the construction of the vital water infrastructure. The contract for this package is set to be awarded in mid-2020. In addition, the Rookwood Weir project is expected to create up to 100 jobs during construction.

“The Palaszczuk Government is getting on with delivering a landmark, multi-million-dollar project that will underpin agricultural growth and supply industrial and urban water for years to come,” Natural Resources Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said.

The second work package that was released will include upgrading the Capricorn Highway intersection at Gogango.

“The roadwork will provide safe access for earth-moving machinery and construction vehicles travelling to the weir site,” Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke said.

Central Queensland businesses are encouraged to get involved in this project that will support the delivery of Rookwood Weir. Approximately 20 jobs are expected to be created under this package of works.

“This is another important milestone for the $352 million Rookwood Weir project that will deliver jobs for the region now and for the next couple of years.

“The weir will boost water security to Livingstone Shire, Rockhampton and Gladstone and help grow and diversify the region’s economy through irrigated agriculture,” Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said.

Mrs Lauga added that the winning builder for the intersection upgrade is required to leverage local relationships as well as prioritise providing opportunities for the local community. The contractor also needs to demonstrate its capacity to effectively and efficiently deliver a projects of this type and size.

The Gogango upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-2020.

The two Rookwood Weir tender packages are available for viewing and submissions at QTender.
