A $150 million contract extension has been awarded to CIMIC Group company Thiess for more works at the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Caval Ridge Coal Operations in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

“We are proud of this contract. It’s a testament to the team’s track record of performance and focus on delivering a safe and productive operation for our client,” CIMIC Executive Mining and Mineral Processing and Thiess Managing Director Douglas Thompson said.

Under this contract extension, Thiess will continue providing mining services at the Caval Ridge operations, including mining additional overburden until 2020. The company will also be providing mining services for “specific components of work” which will cover works at Caval Ridge Southern Circuit as well.

The Caval Ridge Southern Circuit project is comprised of an 11-kilometre overland conveyor system that transports coal from the Peak Downs mine to the handling facility at Caval Ridge.
