US-based Coronado Curragh has awarded CIMIC Group member Thiess a $160 million contract extension to continue providing mining services at the Curragh Coal Mine in Queensland.
Thiess’ scope of works under their extension contract will include mining approximately 45 million bank cubic metres (BCM) of waste and coal at Curragh’s North Pit - which is located 30 kilometres north of Blackwater - until June of next year.
The company will also continue works under its current $1.1 billion contract that is valid until 2021. Theiss’ current scope of works under the billion dollar contract include waste and coal mining truck excavation works as well as run of mine rehandling services, maintenance of client-owned shovel and heavy medium earthmoving equipment.
“Thiess has operated at Curragh for more than 14 years. Over that time, we’ve developed a deep understanding of the site and its operations and built a strong working relationship with the Curragh team. We look forward to continuing this excellent record of delivery for Coronado Coal,” CIMIC Group Executive Mining and Mineral Processing and Thiess Managing Director Douglas Thompson said.
Thiess has been delivering works at the Curragh mine mine since 2004. Coronado acquired the mine from Wesfarmers earlier this year for $700 million.
