Thiess has announced that it has extended its operations at Caval Ridge in Queensland following the award of a $600 million contract.
The contract awarded by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) will extend Thiess’ term by about five years, providing mining services at the Caval Ridge mine as well as operating and maintaining mining equipment that are used to move overburden to support BMA’s production requirements.
“Thiess has been providing mining solutions to BMA at Caval Ridge since December 2017.
“Importantly, our team continues to have a clear commitment and focus on fostering diversity and respectful workplaces, with almost 30% of the workforce being female and 10% being Indigenous. We continue to seek opportunities to bring under-represented groups into the mining industry, and delivering sustainable mining solutions for our clients and stakeholders,” Thiess Executive Chair and CEO Michael Wright said.
The new contract is going to be executed on 1 December 2022.
Thiess is currently recruiting for several roles in the Bowen Basin including truck, multi-skilled and excavator operators.

The Caval Ridge mine is one of nine metallurgical coal mines located in the Bowen Basin near Moranbah. It processes coal from the adjacent Peak Downs mine, transported via an overland conveyor system.
Caval Ridge began operations in 2014 and it is part of the 50:50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development.
