CIMIC Group company Thiess has secured two new contracts for mining services at two Queensland mining projects.

The first contract was awarded by Austral Resources for mining services at the Anthill Copper Project in the Mount Isa region.

Thiess’ scope of works for this three-year contract will include assisting in mine development and operations at the new copper project.

“We’re pleased to be working with Austral Resources to tailor solutions specific to the needs of the Anthill operation.

“We look forward to contributing our experience, technical expertise and focus on safe, reliable and productive operations to create long term value for our client and the community,” Thiess Executive General Manager Australia Shaun Newberry said.

The CIMIC company is currently hiring for a range of roles for the Anthill Copper Project – including operators and fitters. More information on these opportunities can be found on Thiess’ Careers page.

“This contract reflects Thiess’ ability to deliver value for our clients, providing competitive and sustainable mining solutions across a diversified portfolio of projects. We will bring a strong focus on the local community as we mobilise and undertake this exciting new copper project,” Thiess Executive Chairman and CEO Michael Wright said.

The Anthill operations is located within the Lady Annie Project, about 45 kilometres from the Mt Kelly processing facility. This new mine is set to become Austral Resources’ next mining centre.

The second contract secured by Thiess is for a 12-month contract extension from BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).

This contract will enable Thiess to continue providing mining and maintenance services at the Caval Ridge Mine.

“This award is recognition of our team’s commitment to work smarter and ensure we deliver long-term productivity gains for our clients. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with BMA to deliver safe operations and the efficiencies needed to keep the mine competitive on a global scale,” Mr Newberry said.

Thiess first started delivering works at Caval Ridge in 2012, supporting the development of the mining complex. The company’s scope of works included the construction and commissioning of the coal preparation plant – in partnership with Sedgman – as well as delivery of the rail loop and mine infrastructure.

On the other hand, Thiess has been undertaking mining operations since 2017, under successive contract awards.

“We are very pleased to continue our involvement at the Caval Ridge Mine, where we’ve been working with BMA from the beginning, initially helping build the mining infrastructure, and now to continue to deliver safe and efficient mining operations,” Mr Wright said.

Thiess is also hiring for several roles across its operations in Caval Ridge and Peak Downs. Opportunities include operators, fitters and engineers. More information on these work opportunities can be found on Thiess’ Careers page.
