Three consortiums have been shortlisted to tender for the $1.8 billion road and maintenance upgrade of eight congested roads - also known as the Outer Suburban Arterial Roads (OSARs) Program - in the outer western suburbs of Melbourne.

“As the West’s population and economy grows, we’re making the investment required to upgrade key roads,” Said Treasurer and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas.

The three shortlisted consortia are:

  • Netflow
  • Western Improvement Network
  • Western Roads Partnership

The successful tenderer will be responsible for the delivery of eight planned road projects, involving a combination of upgrade and duplication works.

The winning consortium will also deliver 20 years of maintenance for a wider network of more than 750 lane kilometres which includes the following:

  • Dunnings Road and Palmers Road, from Point Cook to Princes Freeway in Point Cook
  • Palmers Road, from Princes Freeway to Western Freeway in Truganina
  • Derrimut Road, from Sayers Road to Dohertys Road in Tarneit
  • Leakes Road, from Fitzgerald Road to Derrimut Road in Truganina
  • Dohertys Road, from Fitzgerald Road to Grieve Parade in Laverton North
  • Dohertys Road, from Foundation Road to Palmers Road in Truganina
  • PrincesFreeway/Forsyth Road interchange in Hoppers Crossing
  • Duncan Road interchange in Werribee/Werribee South

“These upgrades will improve travel times and boost reliability for motorists in one of the fastest growing communities in Victoria,” said Member for Tarneit Telmo Languillar.

An interactive map of the design as well as information about the upgrades – including intersection modifications, construction of shared use paths and changes to road and bridge widths – have been released by VicRoads on their website.

The contract for this project is expected to be awarded in late 2017 and early works will commence shortly after.
