Toowoomba-based business Wagners has been awarded a $35 million works contract for Adani’s Carmichael project in Queensland, which will get the company to assume the lead contractor role for quarry operations at the Galilee Basin mine.

“Wagners, along with many of our other contractors, are proof in point of the exceptional standard of expertise that our Queensland resources industry has to offer,” Carmichael Project Director David Boshoff said.

Under this contract, Wagners will build and operate the quarry located approximately 160 kilometres outside Clermont as well as deliver quarry materials that will support infrastructure for the Carmichael mine and rail project - including roads, camps, pads, dams and mine civil works.

“It’s great to see our commitments on jobs and contracts for regional Queensland now coming to life, and we are so pleased that the benefits are being spread far and wide across regional Queensland, now to Toowoomba.

“This contract means Toowoomba is the latest regional town to get a piece of the Carmichael pie, with more jobs expected to be generated to deliver and operate the quarry,” Mr Boshoff said.

The appointment of Wagners follows the awarding of a $100 million contract to Martinus Rail for the delivery of a rail link as well as the awarding of a $41.4 million contract to Decmil for the construction of rail camps.

“We have more than $500 million in contracts now awarded for the Carmichael Project and we are reaching out to all corners of the state to help us deliver them.

“The operations of the rail camps will be based in Collinsville, earthworks and civil works are coming from Townsville and Rockhampton, fuel supply is from Townsville, telecommunications is from Mackay, rail track laying and rail camp construction is from Rockhampton and many other regional businesses and locations across regional Queensland are also getting involved,” Mr Boshoff said.

Businesses and job seekers who are interested in getting involved in the delivery of the Carmichael mine and rail project can register their interest through Adani’s website.
