The Crisafulli Government is fast-tracking the delivery of major upgrades to improve Caloundra’s busiest intersections, aiming to bust congestion and keep the Sunshine Coast moving.

Site investigations are now underway at Caloundra Road and Bellvista Boulevard in Little Mountain, with results to help shape the design of a future intersection upgrade.

On the other hand, momentum is building on the Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way and Pelican Waters Boulevard upgrade with the appointment of AECOM to undertake detailed design works. Further investigations will be carried out in the coming months as the project moves into the detailed design phase.

“This is about more than congestion. It’s about a transport network that supports jobs, boosts liveability and gets Queensland ready to shine on the global stage in 2032.

“After years of congestion building under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is focused on getting busy roads flowing again.

“These upgrades will cut travel times, improve safety and support the Sunshine Coast as it grows,” Deputy Premier and Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said.

“Everyone who drives this route knows the chokepoints, and this work shows Caloundra is finally being heard.

“Upgrading these intersections will make trips safer and simpler, whether you’re heading to work, school, the shops or appointments,” Member for Caloundra Kendall Hatcher said.

The two projects are pushing the Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan forward, demonstrating the State Government’s commitment to delivering safer, smoother and more reliable travels across the Sunshine Coast.

In addition, the Plan will futureproof the Caloundra traffic network to accommodate the region’s continuous growth by providing an alternative access route into the CBD, upgrading key intersections, and supporting enhanced public transport infrastructure.

These projects are part of the Crisafulli Government’s Safer Roads, Better Transport Plan that aims to get busy road flowing again, improving safety and supporting the growing communities on the Sunshine Coast.

More upgrades will be delivered under the Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan, including the design for new north to south bridges over Caloundra Road and investigations into a future link between Aura Boulevard and Pelican Waters Boulevard.

“The Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan is about real fixes that make everyday trips faster and safer, and helping locals get to school, work and home with less time stuck in traffic, after Labor failed to plan for population growth during their decade of decline.

“More than 60,000 vehicles us the Caloundra Road corridor every day, and traffic is up at least 30 per cent over the past two decades.

“By pushing ahead with investigations and design now, we’re setting up safer, more efficient intersections that ease congestion and back Caloundra’s growth to get the community moving again.

“We’re delivering multiple projects at once, locking in the design team for the Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way and Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection upgrade and fast-tracking investigations at Bellvista Boulevard in Little Mountain, so upgrades are ready to build and right for the community,” Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said.
