The Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility in Western Australia will be expanded with new facilities.
The State’s Public Transport Authority has awarded the contract to deliver the project to the UGL ADCO Joint Venture, with CIMIC Group company UGL expected to generate revenue of over $110 million from the project.
“The Bellevue facility embeds local railcar manufacturing, testing and maintenance in Western Australia. It is key to expanding the State’s rail network, and building local jobs and skills that will support future growth. We are very pleased to be working with the Public Transport Authority, our partner ADCO, and contributing UGL’s extensive transport infrastructure experience,” CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said.
“UGL is a leader in Australian transport and infrastructure. This project will bring together the best of our capabilities to ensure a quality and safe outcome for our client and for rail users across Perth,” UGL Managing Director Doug Moss said.
For this project, UGL will undertake civil works, track construction, signalling and trackside equipment installation, electrification works and connection to the site’s existing High Voltage Traction Power substation.
The expansion will include the construction of a new diesel maintenance facility, B-series maintenance facility, bogie and railcar wash facilities, and railcar wheel lathe.
Delivering these new facilities at the Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility will enable the manufacture and maintenance of railcars to continue in Western Australia for years to come.
The new facilities are expected to be completed in mid-2026.
The purpose-built railcar manufacturing and maintenance facility is being operated by Alstom Australia. It was completed in 2021 as part of the WA Railcar Program that aims to deliver 246 new C-series railcars to service new METRONET projects and replace the older A-series trains.
In addition, six new diesel railcars will be built at the facility as well to replace the existing Australind service between Perth and Bunbury.
