The Victorian Government will be building a brand new train station at Toolern – as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade – which will service Melbourne’s booming outer-western suburbs.
“We’re delivering more frequent and reliable services for Melbourne’s growing western suburbs – helping passengers get to where they need to go,” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.
The new train station is going to be located near Ferris Road in Melton South. Toolern Station will include car parking, a bus interchange and bike storage.
This project is funded by the State Government’s Growth Area Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC). The new Toolern Station between Rockbank and Melton is expected to begin operations by late 2019.
“We know the population in Melbourne’s outer west is booming. That’s why we’re planning for and delivering the public transport options they need now and in the future as they grow,” Minister for Planning Richard Wynne said.
In addition to the new train station, Rockbank Station will also be rebuilt with new facilities as well as more than 300 new car parks. Bacchus Marsh and Ballan Station, on the other hand, will each get additional platforms and pedestrian links which will boost capacity and allow trains to easily pass each other.
Early construction works are already underway on the Ballarat Line Upgrade, with major construction works – including station upgrades and track duplication – expected to begin next year.
Earlier this year, the LendLease, Coleman Rail and SMEC joint venture was appointed as the head builder for the Ballarat Line Upgrade.
