The Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication project is now fully funded and ready to progress towards construction following the commitment of a $55 million funding by the Western Australian Government through the 2021-22 State Budget.
“I know how frustrating this connection can be for locals, so I’m pleased we have fully funded this project.
“The Mandurah Estuary Bridge is a key connection between Mandurah and its southern areas and as the population of our second city grows, so will the traffic using this structure.
“This was a key commitment at the election and I’m proud we are getting on with the job and delivering for the Peel region,” Premier Mark McGowan said.
The $110 million project will deliver a second bridge adjacent the existing bridge to provide additional traffic lanes and support for the old Mandurah Estuary Bridge, which is currently utilised as a primary link to Mandurah’s southern area.
“The Mandurah Estuary Bridge is a key connection for the Dawesville community, with thousands of local people using it every day.
“The second bridge will make the journey north much easier, safer and faster. I am proud to be part of the McGowan Government delivering this important local project,” Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday said.
Once open to traffic, the new Mandurah Estuary Bridge will significantly relieve congestion and will address safety related issues with motorists merging before entering the bridge. In addition, the new crossing will also provide better connections to the Peel region.
Main Roads WA will be undertaking early works on the project, including environmental and heritage assessments, preliminary site investigations, concept design and stakeholder consultation.
“The bridge duplication will not only make travel easier and faster for Mandurah people, it will create hundreds of job opportunities in the local area.
“I’m pleased to tell the community early works are underway and we look forward to delivering this $110 million project on behalf of everyone in Mandurah and the wider Peel region,” Mandurah MLA David Templeman said.
The multi-million-dollar Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication project is expected to create and support more than 500 jobs.
“The State Budget is delivering so many terrific projects in and around the Murray-Wellington area, with the Mandurah Estuary Bridge set to create jobs and make the journey safer for thousands of local people.
“There are so many great local businesses in and around Murray-Wellington and this project will provide opportunities for workers and apprentices, while making our community an even better place to live,” Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments, each contributing $55 million – which the Commonwealth Government committed as part of the 2021-22 Federal Budget.
“Our Government is contributing to build on our $13 billion program of transport infrastructure projects.
“This project has been long awaited by the local community and I’m pleased we are able to work on this important commitment.
“Combined with our new METRONET Lakelands Station that is under construction, and our METRONET multi-storey car park under construction at Mandurah Station, this project will help ease congestion on our roads,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
