A joint venture between Perth-based WBHO Infrastructure and Singapore-based Phoenix Solar has secured the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Byford Solar Farm – Western Australia’s largest solar project.

The project will be delivering a 30-MW solar farm that will span more than 75 hectares and will be generating approximately 80,000-MWh of electricity annually for the South West Integrated System (SWIS).

Byford Solar Farm is going to be located 35 kilometres South-East of Perth CBD, making it the first utility scale solar farm to be constructed within an Australian metropolitan area.

The joint venture will be working for the solar farm’s developer, WestGen, for the delivery of this projects, which is expected to be completed and commissioned by mid-2018.

“It’s an important project. Not only will it set a new benchmark for solar projects in WA, but will also provide benefits for the local economy, with opportunities for our workforce, as well as for subcontractors and suppliers.

“We’re proud to be helping provide clean energy for Western Australia, and are looking forward to delivering this landmark project,” WBHO’s Western Region Executive General manager Will Grobler said.
