What's hot this Wednesday? We sit down with our NSW & ACT Equipment Hire Business Development Manager, Morgan Jones, to take a look at the latest infrastructure updates and construction trends happening around the region.

 TRENDS IN PLANT & EQUIPMENT AND SUBCONTRACTOR REQUESTS

In recent months, we've seen a particular increase in site amenities and general construction equipment being hired - especially for residential construction and infrastructure jobs. Other items include:

The need for better roadways have also been growing in both NSW and ACT due to the increasing population in both regions.

NORTHCONNEX & WESTCONNEX PROJECTS IN NSW

Transurban and the M7 Westlink Shareholders, together with the NSW and Federal Government have started the NorthConnex project that aims to link the M1 Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga to the M2 Motorway at West Pennant Hills. The Design and Construction contract for this project was awarded to Lend Lease Bouygues Joint Venture and major construction started in July 2015.

The nine kilometre tunnel motorway includes interchanges to the north and south to accommodate connections at either end of the project. When completed, it will link Sydney’s north to the Orbital network and form part of the National Highway route.

As for the WestConnex project, Stage 1 is underway and work began back in March 2015 on the M4 Widening – this spans from Church Street, Parramatta to Homebush Bay Drive, Homebush – whereas on June 2015, Leighton Samsung John Holland Joint Venture was selected for contracting and designing of M4 East – spanning Homebush Bay Drive to Parramatta Road and City West Link – and major construction work is estimated to start mid 2016.

WESTERN SYDNEY AIRPORT

The Australian Governement announced that the site for the Western Sydney Airport will be on Badgerys Creek. The new Western Sydney Airport is estimateed to begin operations by mid-2020s.

Stage 1 of the Bringelly Road upgrade has already begun, as well as on the Werrington Arterial Road. These two are part of a 10-year road investment plan set for Western Sydney.

ROAD UPGRADE PROJECTS IN GUNGAHLIN, ACT

The local ACT Government is planning a number of road upgrade projects for the next 12 to 18 months. These upgrades will help ease road congestion in and around the Gungahlin area. Some of the major road uprgade projects include:

Major road works are set to start mid 2015 and are estimated to be completed by late 2016 or early 2017.
