Zenviron – a ZEM Energy-Monadelphous joint venture – has awarded Whittens Group a $15 million contract to deliver works on the Sapphire Wind Farm project in New South Wales.

As a subcontractor for the project, Whittens will build the concrete bases for the wind farm.

“Building off one of Whittens’ core capabilities in concrete construction works, the contract forms an integral part of our long-term growth strategy, and keeps us on target for a successful 2016-17 year,” said Whittens Executive Director Clayton Whitten.

Works are expected to commence soon and will be carried out throughout the year.

About the Sapphire Wind Farm

The Sapphire Wind Farm – a 270-megawatt wind farm – is located 18-kilometres west of Glen Innes and 28-kilometres west of Inverell in the New England Tablelands. Once operational, it will become the State’s largest capacity wind farm and it will be able to supply clean energy to approximately 110,000 homes while also reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 600,000 tonnes yearly.

This project is being delivered by Australian Wind Technology Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Zenviron and Danish wind energy company Vestas.

Project completion is expected by the second half of 2018.
