Winton Solar Farm in VIC to support 150 construction jobs

Written by Monica Gameng | Sep 16, 2018 2:00:00 PM

The State Government has signed a Support Agreement with Fotowatia Renewable Ventures (FRV) for its 85MW-AC Winton Solar Farm located near Benalla, Victoria. This Support Agreement is in line with the Victorian Renewable Energy 2017 Reverse Auction Scheme that will support the Victorian Renewable Energy Targets (VRET)

This agreement will ensure the project’s revenue certainty, which pushes the construction of the Winton Solar Farm to commence in the first quarter of 2019.

Once the solar farm is operational, it will be able to produce enough renewable energy to power approximately 50,000 homes in the State and reduce up to 150,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

“FRV has a firm commitment to Victoria’s renewable energy targets. We are working to ensure that at least 25 per cent of the State’s electricity generation comes from renewable energy sources by 2020, rising to 40 per cent of the generation by 2025. For this reason, we will continue promoting the generation of clean and affordable energy in the country as well as creating local employment and actions that contribute positively to the country’s social development,” FRV Managing Director Australia Carlo Frigerio

The Winton Solar Farm is going to be built on a 250 hectare site approximately 25 kilometres south west of Wangaratta, and its construction is expected to employ up to 150 people.
