Mackay-based Wisely Group has been awarded a three-year contract by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) for maintenance works at the Blackwater coal project in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Wisely Group has been in operations at the Blackwater project since 2015, delivering infrastructure and services to the development and employing up to 65 full-time workers for the job.

Under this new contract, the company will be delivering maintenance services at the metallurgical coal mine starting later this month.

Approximately 150 people are anticipated to be employed under this contract. The workers will be undertaking maintenance of specialised heavy mining equipment.

Wisely Services General Manager Paul Hannay said that this contract will also generate permanent jobs for the local community.

“The expansion of our footprint on site is attributed to the great work our team of people has been delivering for our client.

“Our focus on our people’s safety and well being forms the backbone of everything we do at Wisely and we look forward to the next three years supporting our client through genuine business partnerships,” Mr Hannay said.

The Blackwater metallurgical coal mine is located about 21 kilometres south of the Blackwater township and it has been operated by BHP for more than five decades.
