Woodside Petroleum is moving forward with the $15.3 billion Scarborough LNG Project, with the company awarding four contracts for the delivery of front-end engineering design.

The contract awards include engineering works related to the floating production unit of the upstream development as well as the export trunkline and subsea umbilical risers and flowlines.

“We have made good progress since announcing last year that we had increased our stakes in Scarborough. THe award of these contracts brings us closer to unlocking the Scarborough resource.

“We want to continue to maintain the momentum that has been generated during 2018 towards a targeted final investment decision in 2020,” Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said.

All four contract have included options to progress to an execution phase contract, which is still subject to an positive final investment decision (FID) from the Scarborough Joint Venture.

The four awarded contracts are:

  • Engineering studies for the floating production unit, awarded to McDermott Australia Pty Ltd. The contract includes an option to proceed to an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.

  • Engineering studies for the subsea umbilical risers and flowlines, awarded to the Subsea Integration Alliance - a joint venture between OneSubsea Australia and Subsea 7 Australia Contracting. The contract includes the option to proceed to an EPC contract.

  • Provision of export trunkline engineering support services, awarded to Saipem Australia Pty Ltd. The contract includes an option to deliver line pipe coating and installation works.

  • Export trunkline engineering, awarded to Intecsea Pty Ltd

Woodside Petroleum will initially fully fund the contract awarded through its corporate capacity as a titleholder for the Scarborough project.

The Scarborough project is located approximately 375 kilometres west-northwest of the Burrup Peninsula, in the Carnarvon Basin in Western Australia.

Woodside is planning to process the gas sourced from the Scarborough LNG Project through the existing Pluto LNG facility. The gas from Scarborough is going to be transported via a 430-kilometre pipeline.

The Scarborough LNG Project is set to become part of Woodside’s Burrup Hub.
