Construction on new overtaking lanes on the Kings Highway at Mulloon, New South Wales is ramping up.
The project includes:
- A new eastbound overtaking lane at Mulloon
- A new eastbound overtaking lane near Misty Mountain Road
- Safety treatments including widened centrelines, widened shoulders, roadside safety barriers, and audio-tactile line marking north of McCardy’s Creek
- High-friction pavement seal on parts of ‘Clyde Mountain’ to reduce the likelihood of wet weather crashes
- Roadside safety barrier along the southern approach to Braidwood
“This work will provide motorists with a new eastbound overtaking lane on the highway between Mulloon Creek and Goulburn Road at Mulloon.
“A widened centreline and shoulders, roadside safety barriers, upgraded drainage and rumble strips will also be added to improve safety.
“Upgrading the Kings Highway has been a long-term job, we had many improvements when I was last the local member, including the major realignments between Queanbeyan and Bungendore,” Member for Monaro Steve Whan said.
The $20 million project is being delivered as part of an extensive program of safety and efficiency upgrades that aims to provide safety for the local community as well as freight moving between Batemans Bay and the NSW/ACT border.
Works on a new overtaking lane near Misty Mountain Road are already underway and are due to be completed in late 2023.
“It’s a task that needs ongoing commitment, regardless of changes of Government, and I’m pleased to see this latest program continuing.
“The Kings Highway is a State responsibility, but it is great to be joined by the Mayor Kenrick Winchester on site, because so many of our local roads benefit from cooperation between our two levels of Government.
“The Minns Labor Government is pleased to be getting on with the job of delivering infrastructure improvements for communities across the Monaro electorate and we thank motorists for their patience while this important works take place,” Mr Whan said.
Weather permitting, works on the new overtaking lanes are expected to take about seven months to complete.
During the construction period, single lane closures, stop/slow traffic conditions as well as a reduced 40 km/h speed limit will be observed while access to properties will be maintained at all times.
All road users are advised to drive to the conditions, allocate an additional five minutes in travel times and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
