Works begin on $17.4m new wastewater facility in Parkes NSW

Construction has commenced on the $17.4 million Parkes Wastewater Treatment Plant and Recycled Water Scheme in New South Wales.

Once the wastewater treatment and recycle plant is completed, it will provide the region with a reliable and enduring water source.

“Coming from regional NSW myself, I know how important it is to have a secure and reliable water source, and this facility will help Parkes and the surrounding region during times of drought.

“I aim to build the kinds of regional communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and providing a secure and sustainable water supply is a big part of that,” said Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash.

According to Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack, the new facility at Parkes will provide the region access to recycled water which approximately 30,000 people will benefit from each year. Mr McCormack also said that the recycled water from the facility will have several uses which includes watering gardens and parks as well as particular farmland and industry applications.

Parkes Shire Council Mayor Ken Keith said that the new Parkes Advanced Recycled Water Facility reinforces the new recycled water scheme for the region and it will strengthen water security for Parkes.

“The project will provide advanced disinfection of the high grade effluent from the new sewage treatment plant next door, to supply vastly superior water quality to customers on the existing effluent reuse scheme, and also allow recycled water to be used to irrigate sports grounds and parks around the town,” the Mayor said.
