Works begin to deliver the Abra Base Metals Project in WA

Monica Gameng   |   October 8, 2019

Works to prepare the site for the construction of a plant and mine development has commenced as part of Galena Mining’s joint venture Abra Base Metals Project in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region - approximately 200 kilometres north of Meekatharra.

The works include site clearing and roadworks, installation of water supply and wastewater treatment facilities as well as the deployment and establishment of an 80-person permanent accommodation camp.

“The construction works now commenced at Abra are significant and most of them form part of what might go into a final EPC package so we’re genuinely getting a ‘jump’ on things to fast-track the overall timetable to production,” Galena Mining Managing Director Alex Molyneux said.

A 24-person temporary construction camp has been established to facilitate the delivery of the works mentioned above. This temporary accommodation camp will house workers until the permanent camp is completed and ready for habitation.

The surface infrastructure works are part of a $15 million development works program that was approved by the Abra Mining Pty Limited (AMPL) board. Works are expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2019.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as mining services contracts for the delivery of the plant and the development of the boxcut / underground mine for the Abra Base Metals Project is yet to be finalised.
