Works commence to remove the Reservoir level crossing in VIC
Works have begun to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing at Reservoir in Victoria. Early works have commenced on site, with the design for the level crossing removal and new Reservoir Station revealed.
“Getting rid of this level crossing is long overdue and will transform the way we live, work and travel around Reservoir for decades to come,” Member for Preston Robin Scott said.
The design for this project will include elevating the rail line over High Street with a rail bridge, which is going to be built together with the new, modern train station and public plaza.

The new premium Reservoir Station will feature:
- Above ground platforms with access via stairs and lifts
- A new station forecourt accessible from either side of the station plaza
- New bicycle paths and safer walkways for enhanced pedestrian access
- Safer waiting areas, better lighting, CCTV cameras and toilets
With the elevated rail design, pedestrians and cyclists will be provided with better connections and open up opportunities for new public open spaces and future transport upgrades in the area.
“We’re taking the next step to ensure this dangerous level crossing is gone for good - improving safety and reducing congestion for locals.
“This design will reduce impacts on nearby roads and businesses and provide opportunities to create better connections for the community,” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.

An average of 36,000 vehicles pass through the Reservoir level crossing each day with the boom gates down for approximately 24 minutes during the morning peak as well as a number of recorded collisions and traffic incidents at the site, making this project vital to Reservoir.
Early works already underway on site include geotechnical investigations, site establishment and relocation of services.
In the coming months, the Level Crossing Removal Authority will be engaging with the local community for more feedback on the design of the new station precinct.
Major construction activities are projected to commence in early 2019, with completion due in 2020.
