Works continue to progress on $290m Mamre Road upgrade

Written by Monica Gameng | Jun 11, 2025 4:15:51 AM

Works to upgrade the intersection of Mamre Road and Luddenham Road to a multiple lane, traffic light intersection will begin soon.

The works will be delivered as part of the $290 million upgrade to a 3.8 kilometre section of Mamre Road between Erskine Park and the M4 Motorway.

To enable construction to be carried out, Transport for NSW will divert Luddenham Road traffic on to Old Luddenham Road. The road will be closed in the small section between Old Luddenham Road and Mamre Road from 20 June 2025 until early 2026.

Road users will continue to have access to Mamre Road from Old Luddenham Road. The temporary intersection will have dedicated lanes for vehicles turning left and right, to maintain safety and minimise traffic congestion.

Speed limit will also be reduced from 60km/h to 40km/h on approach to Old Luddenham Road, and it will stay in place until early 2026.

Transport for NSW is advising road users to take care and follow the direction of traffic control, signs and speed limits.

Other works progressing on Mamre Road Upgrade Stage 1 project include widening the road with separated lanes and new drainage between the M4 Motorway and Erskine Park Road.

While Stage 1 works continue to ramp up, the New South Wales and Australian Governments are jointly investing $1 billion to advance planning works on the Mamre Road Upgrade Stage – Erskine Park to Kemps Creek, which will provide better connectivity and reduce congestion through this key employment zone.

Stage 1 is due to be completed in 2028. On the other hand, construction on Stage 2 will commence in 2027 and be completed in 2029.

Key features of Stage 1 include:

  • Four lane divided road with a wide central median, allowing for six lanes in future if required
  • Changes to six intersections on Mamre Road
  • A new shared path along the eastern side of Mamre Road
  • Reinstating bus stops near Banks Drive with the capacity for additional bus infrastructure in the future
  • Changes to property access for Mamre House and Erskine Park Rural Fire Service
  • Installing permanent noise walls along the eastern side of Mamre Road at St Clair

Proposed key features of Stage 2 include:

  • Upgrades to two existing intersections (James Erskine Drive and Bakers Lane)
  • Upgrades to two future intersections (Abbotts Road and Aspect Industrial Estate
  • Road widening
  • Shared user path on eastern side of the carriageway
  • Footpath on western side of the carriageway
