A key power substation in the Northern Territory is being upgraded to help meet future electricity supply demands and support businesses in the region.
Works are now underway on the Trevor Horman Substation upgrade at Berrimah. The contract to design and build the $55.3 million project has been awarded to Darwin-based company ESPEC.
“The upgrade of the Trevor Horman Substation will ensure the growing industrial areas of Berrimah and Wishart will have reliable power supply into the future,” Minister for Essential Services Kate Worden said.
Functional and concept designs for the upgrade are already complete and work has commenced on the detailed design phase.
Civil works are expected to start on site in August of this year, with major construction activities to progress over the next two years.
The Trevor Horman Substation upgrade project will include the installation of a new 66kV AIS switchyard, 66kV power transformers, construction of a new control building, new 11kV switchboard, new 11kV reactor banks and associated secondary systems.
