Works underway on Calder Highway intersection upgrade in VIC

Construction has commenced on a safety upgrade at the Calder Highway and Patchewollock-Sea Lake Road intersection as part of the $20 million Calder Highway - Bendigo to Mildura Upgrade.

This upgrade will include a new T intersection as well as a right-hand turning lane that will help improve safety and capacity on the highway.

“With this upgrade, we are boosting productivity and safety for regional producers in Mildura who rely on this vital connection to get their agricultural freight to market in Bendigo and Melbourne,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said.

Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said that the project will also include a new centre island, safety barrier and road surface. Mr Donnellan added that the intersection is no longer meeting the needs of the community which is why this upgrade is important.

“These improvements will help our regional producers transport their goods to market faster and more safely, while improving access for heavy freight vehicles,” Mr Donnellan said.

Upon completion, the upgrade will greatly improve safety across the Calder Highway. Locals and tourists visiting the region and the nearby Lake Tyrell will also benefit from this vital upgrade.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments, each contributing $10 million.
