Construction on Goldwind Australia’s 530MW Stockyard Hill Wind Farm in the Pyrenees Shire in Victoria is progressing well with another contract award. The new contract was awarded to Zinfra for the construction of connection assets in behalf of AusNet Services.

Under this contract, Zinfra will undertake building 70 kilometres of 132kV transmission line that will connect the three Wind Farm Collector Substations to the greenfield Terminal Station located at Haunted Gully; procurement of materials associated with the 132kV transmission line; construction of the 500kV/132kV Haunted Gully Terminal Station - including all structural, civil and electrical works; as well as construction of the interface works and cut-over that will realign the existing 500kV transmission line - which is the main connection between Victoria and South Australia - and connect the Haunted Gully Terminal Station.

Preliminary works for this project is already underway, with Zinfra expected to start mobilising on site by July 2018.

“We are thrilled to be working on this significant project for AusNet Services, leveraging our core capability in the sector, into the renewables sector,” Zinfra General Manager Project Paul Birighitti said.

The large-scale Stockyard Hill Wind Farm - located approximately 45 kilometres south of Ballarat - will comprise of 149 wind turbines and the project is valued at almost $700 million.

Once completed, the wind farm is going to be the largest in the country and it is projected to generate enough clean energy to power 391,000 homes in Victoria.

In December 2017, the joint venture between WBHO Infrastructure and SNC-Lavalin was named as the preferred contractor to undertake engineering design as well as procurement and construction of the project.

Works on the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm commenced in May 2018 and its construction is expected to employ up to 300 workers.
