This two-year contract will have an option to extend for up to another three years and scope of works will include pre-strip overburden removal utilising Downer’s existing capital equipment.

“Downer has been working closely with BMA at a number of mine sites for many years and we look forward to continuing to provide safe and productive services at the Goonyella Riverside coal mine,” Downer Chief Executive Officer Grant Fenn said.

This new contract award will will be replacing Downer’s existing contract with BMA, which commenced in 2016 and expired on 30th September 2019.

The Goonyella Riverside mine is one of the seven Bowen Basin mines operated by BMA and it produces seaborne metallurgical coal. Other mines in operation include Broadmeadow, Daunia, Peak Downs, Saraji, Blackwater and Caval Ridge.
