2019-20 Budget injects $2.6bn for SA road infrastructure projects

Approximately $2.6 billion has been allotted towards the delivery of South Australian road infrastructure projects from the recently announced 2019-20 Budget.

“This massive injection of Federal Government funding will underpin a strong construction industry in South Australia and help to secure thousands of construction jobs over the coming years,” Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said.

The multi-billion dollar investment will deliver vital road projects, including:

  • $1.5 billion for the North-South Corridor in addition to the previous $1.21 billion commitment
  • $115.5 million towards the Torrens Road (Ovingham) level crossing upgrade
  • $85.5 million towards the Brighton Road (Hove) level crossing upgrade
  • $97 million for congestion-busting intersection upgrades, including Portrush/Magill Road intersection, Fullarton/Cross Road intersection and Springbank/Goodwood/Daws Road intersection
  • $17.5 million towards the Glen Osmond and Fullarton Road intersection upgrade
  • $9.5 million towards the Main North Road/Nottage Terrace upgrade
  • $6.5 million towards the Main North Road/McIntyre Road/Kings Road upgrade
  • $9.5 million towards the Grand Junction Road/Hampstead Road upgrade
  • $73.6 million for the duplication of Victor Harbor Road between Main South Road and McLaren Vale
  • $44 million towards Horrocks Highway improvements
  • $220 million for regional roads through the Roads of Strategic Importance fund
  • Up to $200 million towards upgrades to the Princes Highway
  • $114.4 million for further key regional road safety upgrades

“The Federal Government is also partnering with the State Government to bust traffic congestion around metropolitan Adelaide, with a host of intersection upgrades and important level crossings,” Mr Knoll said.

The 2019-20 Budget was announced earlier this month, and it will inject approximately $100 billion over a 10-year period to deliver vital nation-building projects across Australia.
