Construction is now underway on the $400 million Dorsett Hotel and Star Residences on the Gold Coast - which is set to deliver Australia’s first Dorsett hotel - with Hutchinson Builders appointed as the preferred contractor to deliver the 53-storey mixed-use tower.

The new tower is being developed by Destination Gold Coast Consortium which is comprised of The Star Entertainment Group, Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

The new mixed-use tower - designed by Cottee Parker Architects and DBI Design - will be made up of 316 hotel rooms as well as 423 one and two bedroom apartments with direct access to the Star.

“We are delighted to further enhance the tourism appeal for the Gold Coast and south-east Queensland more generally with this latest joint venture development.

“The introduction of a Dorsett hotel will bring with it increased awareness in the global market, especially in Asia, where Dorsett Hospitality International owns and operates the majority of its 54 hotels,” The Star Entertainment Group Chairman John O’Neill said.

The development will also feature new restaurants and bar concepts, together with a recreation deck that has ocean views and resort pool for guests at the hotel.

This project is expected to create up to 1,800 jobs during construction, including Hutchinson Builders’ own people and subcontractors. Local suppliers, businesses and consultants are also going to be engaged for the delivery of this multi-million dollar project.

Once completed, the Dorsett Hotel and Star Residences is also projected to employ approximately 500 people for operational positions.

“We anticipate The Star Stage 1 Tower will create 1,800 direct jobs during construction. This includes Hutchies’ own people and our subcontractors. Construction activity will also support the local economy through consultants, suppliers and the local community throughout the project,” Hutchinson Builders’ Managing Director Greg Quinn said.

Construction is expected to be completed and the doors open for business in early 2022.
