$412m Mt Bundy Gold Project secures approval & works to begin soon
Development of the Mt Bundy Gold Project in the Northern Territory is a step closer to commencing as the Territory Government grants environmental approval to the $412 million project.
The approvals are for the redevelopment of the Rustlers Roost and Quest 29 open cut mines.
The granting of environmental approvals to the Mt Bundy Gold Project marks a major milestone in its vital approval process.
In 2022, the Mt Bundy Gold Project was granted Major Project Status, fast tracking the restart of three mines. You can read more about the declaration here.
Primary Gold Pty Ltd – the project proponent – will be re-commencing open cut mining in Rustlers Roost and Quest 29 along with the expansion of all existing open cut pits and the development of two additional new pits at Mt Bundy.
On the other hand, environmental approval was granted to the third mine – Tom’s Gully underground mine – in 2020.
Early works are now underway on the project, with a new bridge already completed and the beginning of geotechnical drilling.
A Definitive Feasibility Study is now being carried out by Mintrex Engineering and further construction on the Mt Bundy Gold Project is expected to commence following its completion over 2023 and 2024.
The Mt Bundy Project is estimated to create up to 150 jobs during its 18-month construction and a further 300 jobs over a 10-year period once up and running.
During its operations, the Mt Bundy Gold Project will produce an average of more than 135,000 ounces of gold annually.

“Gold is needed not just for jewellery and investments, but for the creation of electronics, high tech health care and aerospace, and the Northern Territory has the supply the world needs.
“The Territory Labor Government is delivering more mining projects, strengthening the economy and doing so in an environmentally responsible manner,” Minister for Mining and Industry Nicole Manison said.
